Abstract
In the valleys of the rivers Main and Regnitz (northern Bavaria, Germany) the first Swifts arrive in the middle of April. From April 22nd on, they appear in the cities and villages. A part of these Swifts were migrators. From the beginning of May, the number of the birds is stable, but one can always recognize a short time increase of the Swifts, which is caused by the migrators. The last week in May 1916 a long period of rainy weather started and all the Swifts were gone, except a very little number. During these days, smaller groups were seen over the river Main. On June 11th, 15th big numbers of Swifts pass the city of Bamberg southwards. When the weather was sunny again on June 17th, the local birds were back and visited the nesting sites. One can conclude that the birds overflew the depression and went to southwest, where they found sunshine and nutrition.
On July 12th the birds had left the city of Bamberg and many birds were seen migrating southwards, but astonishingly at the same time many were flying northwards. In August one can see southwards traveling birds only. The last individuals were seen on September 8th and 9th.
