The Black Swift (the Russian name for Apus apus) colonised modern apartment blocks in the city of Frunze (today Bishkek / Kyrgyzstan) in 1978. Three years later, in 1981, 85 pairs were counted nesting in three blocks. That year, nest-building commenced from 25th  April to 4th May, a nest being built in 10 to12 days. By 19th May, three nests had eggs. The juveniles fledged mostly between the 5th and the 7th July. The Swifts left Frunze between 26th and 28th July.
